Appeal to Embrace Peace and Tolerance During the Upcoming By-Elections in Uganda.

VENUE: Kampala

KAMPALA: We, the Eminent Women of the Women’s Situation Room (WSR) Uganda, have noted with concern levels of violence, human rights abuses and failure to observe law and order ahead of the LC-V By-elections in Kayunga.

We condemn such acts of violence as they have the potential to discredit the electoral process. Violence can never be the solution and only hurts, destroys and divides us all. For peace to prevail, all sides must pursue peace.

The Women’s Situation Room is cognizant of the fact that several By-elections are yet to be held in different parts of the country and, therefore, calls upon all candidates, voters and those responsible for election management to embrace Peace and Tolerance during the forthcoming By-elections.

We call on the general public to exercise vigilance and to call the WSR Uganda toll-free hotline (0800 333 433) to report any incidents that disrupt peace during the elections and after polling.

We continue to urge all Ugandans to say no to all forms of violence, and keep law and order. Let us all enable safe and peaceful By-elections.
